Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's for Memberships

Who can apply for a membership?

At The A World UK, we are committed to providing support and assistance to autistic individuals and their families. To be eligible for a membership, individuals and families must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Official Autism Diagnosis: To apply for a membership, at least one member within the family must have an official autism diagnosis. We understand that autism is a life-long neurodevelopmental condition in which we support individuals of all ages.

2. Residence: Applicants must reside within one of the areas that we currently support. We aim to make our services accessible to as many individuals and families as possible, but our support is currently limited to specific geographic regions.

Am I eligible for a membership?

Currently our membership scheme is only available to applicants who have a formal autism diagnosis and live within the same council borough as one of our currently operating community stores.  Please visit our areas we support page to see what current council boroughs are eligible.

Why am I not eligible for a membership?

The A World UK relies solely on funding raised within our community stores to ensure that the funds generated have a direct and positive impact on the local communities we support. Our eligibility criteria for membership are designed to maintain a fair and sustainable system.

How is eligibility determined for membership?

When establishing coverage areas, we consider various factors beyond just postcodes. Our decision to focus on specific areas is not solely based on geographical boundaries. We prioritise the immediate autistic community surrounding our existing stores to ensure a meaningful impact.

I live in a specific postcode; why am I not eligible for membership?

While we understand that having a certain postcode may lead to expectations of coverage, our focus is on prioritising the immediate autistic community surrounding our existing community stores. At present, we are not able to support everyone solely based on postcodes.

Can I still request tickets for events if I'm not eligible for membership?

Absolutely! Living outside of the eligible membership areas does not prevent you from requesting tickets to our much-loved autism-friendly take-over events. We encourage everyone to participate in and enjoy these events, fostering a sense of community.

Are there plans to expand eligibility in the future?

Yes, we are actively exploring opportunities to expand our reach and establish more community stores in various areas. Our goal is to extend membership support to residents further afield, allowing them to directly benefit from our initiatives. While we may not currently cover all areas, we aspire to include more communities in the future.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

Members receive priority event booking and easy access for requesting tickets for events, apply for our funded services, join our members only Facebook group and receive members only newsletters.

What is the cost of a membership?

Our standard membership costs £25 per year and covers up to 4 people. This means that for just £25, you and up to three others can enjoy the benefits of The A World UK membership, including priority ticket requests to events, apply for our funded services and more.

If you have a larger family, don't worry! We understand that some families are more extensive, and we offer the option to include additional individuals for just £5 per person. As of now, our memberships are available for groups of up to 6 people in total.

Do I still have to pay for event tickets?

Yes, if you would like to attend an event of ours then you will have to purchase tickets. We do not offer a discount on our tickets as The A World UK has already hugely subsidised the cost of the tickets for the events.

How long does a membership last, and how can I renew it?

A membership lasts for 12 months, one of our team will be in contact prior to your expiry date regarding your membership with the option to renew.

Thank you for your understanding, and we appreciate your support as we work towards making a positive impact on autistic communities across various regions.
