Whether at professional or amateur level, athletes all pose a great level of fitness, drive and energy, which when used in the correct way becomes infectious to the people they are around. Over several years Matthew noticed everywhere he worked the most common support worker would be deemed as a 40 years old + lady, who is more than happy to sit in a coffee shop for 2+ hours of the support session, leaving young males and females sat in a dull area for the majority of the time of their support- completely unfair! No Common Knowledge or Interests; No Energy; No Conversation and No Development of Skills and Fun! This is certainly not the same case for everybody but morally, Matthew had to make a difference.
To bring friendship and happiness to people with a disability
Through community experiences we will bring a smile to all of our participants, and reach every ounce of their potential
Founder of My Ability Matthew Fletcher has been working in this field since 2017. At just 17 years old; Matthew had worked with several people with varying disabilities, providing him with experience at all levels of the spectrum. At 18, Matthew moved out to Brisbane, Australia to play Rugby League. With plenty of spare time on his hands he decided to begin his own business supporting individuals with autism/ learning difficulties and their families. This quickly became a success, and the work was highly regarded around Brisbane. Throughout this time Matthew was able to witness first-hand the benefits in providing athletes as support workers. Motivated by his extensive network of fellow professional athletes and many requests from people seeking support and their carers, he created the My Ability platform to create and connect a community, with a vision to grow nationally. Having faced a childhood being brought up with a brother who requires support, My Ability is the evolution of Matthew’s innate desire to create positive impact and build a community of athletes and young people who are committed to connecting with children and adults with disabilities. To share time, experiences and connect meaningfully which will enhance the clients’ perception of what is possible, that nothing can hold you back and together, we can do anything.
